A total of 30 international media from 11 countries were in Malaysia to participate in the Mega Familiarisation programme called “Its Summertime in Malaysia – Let’s go to the Beach Visit Malaysia 2020 Edition”.

The group was given the opportunity to enjoy first-hand the attractiveness of Malaysia’s beaches and aquatic experiences, as well as other tourism products such as culture and heritage as well as ecoadventure.

The participants were divided into three groups with three different destinations namely Perak and Penang, Terengganu and Sabah. The focus of this programme is to create awareness about preservation and conservation of nature through activities on the islands, i.e. visiting the SEATRU Turtle Lab at the Redang Island to learn about the sea turtle conservation.

Apart from their designated islands and beaches destinations, the participants visited several iconic places around Kuala Lumpur such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, KL Tower, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Dataran Merdeka. They also travelled to other parts of Malaysia such as Putrajaya and Melaka, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Terengganu.

To ensure the campaign’s success, Tourism Malaysia partnered with several companies from the private sector such as Rasa Sayang Shangri La Resort Penang, KL Hop-On Hop-Off, Penang Global Tourism, Terengganu Tourism Department, as well as Malaysia Airlines who sponsored the flight tickets.

The programme saw a total participation of 30 international media from 11 countries, i.e. Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam. Three media representatives from Malaysia also took part in the programme.
