MEGA FAM : LET'S DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

18 international media representatives from 13 countries (Australia, Austria, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, United States of America, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Singapore) were in Malaysia to experience the richness of Sarawak culture and adventure from 15 to 20 July 2019.

The group received invitation from Tourism Malaysia to join the Mega Familiarisation Programme themed “Let’s Do Something Different,” where theywere brought on Malaysia’s experiential tours of Kuching, Sarawak. The aim of this programme is to expose participants to Sarawak’s tourism products, known for its Community Based Tourism (CBT),where they will ultimately disseminate information to their respective readers and viewers.

Participants later participated in the Mini Frog Race, which takes a unique look at Malaysia’s anurans (frogs and toads). The event was re-created on a smaller scale especially for this Mega Fam group to give them a taste of the popular international-level Bornean Frog Race which takes place in April annually in Kuching. The event draws public attention to the frogs of Borneo and brings awareness to the importance of education and amphibian conservation.

The group also had a chance to engage in outdoor and cultural experiences such as visiting the Semenggoh Nature Reserve, kayaking at Kampung Danu, visiting the longhouse at Mengkak Longhouse Batang Ai, and participating in Tourism Malaysia’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. The CSR activity was a special project to create a mini library or reading corner for the longhouse residents. The books were contributed by the international media and officers and family of Tourism Malaysia.

The programme is supported by partnerships with Malaysia Airlines and Sarawak Tourism Board.
