Florathon, the first event for the Flora Fest 2007 on Saturday, 20 January 2007, is a brisk 3km walk and participants will be judged not by speed but by floralthemed costumes. The route covers Jalan Raja, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Cenderawasih, Jalan Tembusu, Jalan Cenderasari and back to Jalan Raja.

All Malaysians and foreign tourists aged 13 years and above are eligible to enter. Participants are divided into nine categories: Junior Men, Junior Women, Men, Women, Diplomatic Corps (Men), Diplomatic Corps (Women), Tourist (Men), Tourist (Women) and Team Participation. The judging for prizes will be based on theme, originality and effort. The event offers a total of RM26,500 cash prizes. There is no entry fee.

Happening concurrently will be the Bunga Raya Waiter's Race, a subcomponent of Florathon. The participants have to balance the Bunga Raya mocktail on a tray with one hand throughout the route while dressed in floral outfits. It is open to everyone in the hospitality and Food & Beverage industries.

The Minister of Tourism, YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor, will flag off the Florathon at Dataran Merdeka, while the Minister of Federal Territories, YB Dato' Haji Zulhasnan bin Rafique, will present the prizes to the winners. On the event day, Dataran Merdeka will be abuzz with activities for the whole family, creating an atmosphere of festivity from morning till noon.

In conjunction with VMY 2007, the sponsors include Alla Fonte mineral water and Nestle.
