Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the theme #sehatisejiwa was chosen because it reflected the spirit of solidarity, understanding, togetherness and humanity of all people in the country. He added that starting this year, the Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations would no longer be called by their anniversary, but by year.
Known locally as Hari Kemerdekaan, August 31st is the day when Malaysians show their appreciation for yet another year of harmony among her people, and are reminded of the struggle for independence. Among the events leading up to the day of the parade included a marathon, carnival and concert.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery also flagged off the #sehatisejiwa Exploration convoy involving two Information Department vehicles, 10 Proton Club vehicles, 20 big bikes and a bonded truck, which were to travel across the country to promote this year's Merdeka Day celebrations.
