DEEPAVALI OPEN HOUSE (MRTM)

The Malaysia Open House celebration is an annual national event that highlights religious festivals by various races in Malaysia such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Christmas, Tadau Kaamatan and Chinese New Year. It has been organised since 2001.

The objective is to foster unity and understanding of the multi-racial community, celebrate the spirit of the New Malaysia, promote closer relations between leaders and the people and highlight the tradition of celebrating the festivities in Malaysia as one of the national tourism activities.

Deepavali or Divali or the 'Festival of Lights' is celebrated by Hindus with prayers, family gatherings and festivities. Open houses are held where family and friends visit each other and enjoy delicious traditional goodies. Just like most major celebrations by other communities, Deepavali is a time for visitations to temples and friends and relatives, including the famous Malaysian Open House.
