VISA-ON-ARRIVAL PROCEDURES REVISED

The Immigration Department of Malaysia has revised the application procedures for Visa-On-Arrival (VOA), effective August 2008.

With the changes, the issuance of VOA is now for single entry, valid for social visit not exceeding 14 days. A fee of RM100 is imposed for the VOA.

Upon arrival, visitors must produce a valid passport (with 6 months or more validity period), plus a confirmed return ticket with a departure date that is within the 14-day duration. They will also be required to provide a local address and produce details of a local sponsor. In this case, travel agents recognized by the Tourism Ministry may act as sponsors.

Entry points with VOA facility

The VOA will be issued to eligible applicants at the various entry points in Malaysia, i.e. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), Penang International Airport (Penang), Senai International Airport (Johor), Kuching International Airport (Sarawak), Kota Kinabalu International Airport (Sabah) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar, Tanjung Kupang (Second Link, Johor).

Meanwhile, the VOA facility for Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka citizens has been withdrawn.

Others not eligible to apply for VOA are:

  • Citizens of African countries (please refer to the Immigration Department of Malaysia website: http://www.imi.gov.my/bm/perkhidmatan/im_VisaOnArrival.asp), Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Exceptions are given to those working and residing in Singapore
  • Citizens of Colombia
  • Citizens of Israel
  • Citizens of Republic Of Montenegro
  • Citizens of Republic Of Serbia

Other nationalities that hold long term passes in Singapore may apply for the visa-on-arrival. However, they are encouraged to apply for their multiple-entry visa, for which they are eligible, at the High Commission in Singapore.
