TOURISM MALAYSIA JOINS WORLD TRAVEL MARKET 2022

LONDON, 7 NOVEMBER 2022 – Malaysia returns to participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) 2022 which is held at ExCeL London, with a strong message to promote Malaysia as a top-of-mind holiday destination after travel restrictions were withdrawn in most countries around the world. This year is the 41st participation by Tourism Malaysia since it was introduced in 1981.

Starting from 7 to 9 November, WTM 2022 will welcome its attendees physically in ExCeL London. Tourism Malaysia is joined on the stand by 49 tourism-related organisations taking part in the event, comprising (18) tour operators, (15) hotels and resorts, eight (8) state tourism agencies, three (3) tourism associations, one (1) airline and four (4) tourism-related services, including Malaysia Health Tourism Council (MHTC), inviting healthcare travellers to Malaysia for an exclusive wellness travel experience, combining world-class leisure getaways and offering preventive care services.

WTM has long served as an important platform to introduce Malaysian tourism attractions that meet the interests of the UK and European markets, and continues to be the suitable platform for industry players to meet and plan their business strategies for the coming years.

Commenting on the participation, His Excellency, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom & Northern Ireland, Ambassador Dato´ Zakri Jaafar said, “WTM is the best platform to promote Malaysia’s tourism industry to the global market in particular the UK and Europe. With the participation of experienced industry players who are able to provide good services to tourists, we are confident that the arrival of tourists from the UK and Europe as a whole will increase. We also hope the participants will take advantage of the B2B session to create wider business opportunities”.

Dato’ Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, the Director-General of Tourism Malaysia is also optimistic about this year’s participation, “Participation in WTM this time is very meaningful for us after going through a difficult period for two years. We will use this opportunity as much as possible to reassess and restructure our strategy in an effort to attract more tourists to Malaysia. Continuous efforts, especially participating in exhibitions like this, are very important to ensure that the national tourism industry returns to its original path.”

In conjunction with their participation in this year's WTM, Tourism Malaysia will launch a generic TV commercial (TVC) for a global promotional campaign. The TVC which lasts 5 minutes, 3 minutes and 30 seconds will highlight the variety of products Malaysia has to offer in line with the Malaysia Truly Asia slogan. Similarly, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) will also be launching their latest TVC.

Tourism Malaysia will sign a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) with Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) and Turkish Airlines at the Tourism Malaysia Pavillion, supporting the country’s national carrier in its Bonus Side Trip campaign which allows travellers to add an extra leg to their journey from selected international destinations to enjoy Malaysia's cultural gems at a minimal cost. This follows its recent collaboration with Emirates and Qatar Airways, which is aimed at increasing connectivity so that Malaysia can be visited by tourists from all corners of the world. Currently, Malaysia Airlines is operating twice daily non-stop from London to Kuala Lumpur.

Tourism Malaysia will be at stand AS700. For more information on WTM, visit its official website here.
