THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF BAZAAR RAMADAN 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 JULY 2012: In conjunction with the launch of Bazaar Ramadan 2012, the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia, donated a total of 100 large pots of Kampung Baru’s famous Bubur Lambok Agong, a local porridge delicacy, to the members of the public at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, here, last Saturday.

The event was launched by YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Minister of Tourism, Malaysia. Also present were YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Phesal Talib, Kuala Lumpur Mayor; YBhg Dato’ Haji Idris Shaari Mat Aris, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru Chairman; and YBhg Dato’ Dr. Ong Hong Peng, Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia.

A total of 23,000 containers of Bubur Lambuk Agong were distributed to the public at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, Malaysia Tourism Centre in Jalan Ampang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Central Market, Bukit Bintang and the Masjid Jamek LRT station.

Celebrated nationwide in Malaysia, the Bazaar Ramadan is held annually during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which, for this year, commenced on 21 July. Many major townships would set up their own Bazaar Ramadan -- street-side stalls that often run the length of a whole street, with vendors offering Muslims and non-Muslims alike a choice of traditional delicacies that are as diverse as the country’s multi-ethnic communities.

“The Bazaar Ramadan is unique because that is when tourists can join Muslims and non-Muslims alike to savour a wide variety of regional and authentic local dishes offerred by street vendors throughout the fasting month,” said Dr. Ng, adding that the bazaar also enhances racial harmony and religious tolerance.

At the same event, the Ministry of Tourism also donated RM3,000 to Rumah Sinar Salam, Yayasan Chow Kit and Rumah Kebajikan Tara Bhavan.

The event was organised with the co-operation of Ahli Qariah Masjid Jamek Kampung Bharu and supported by Petronas Dagangan Berhad, Nestle Products (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Kampung Baharu Malay Agriculture Settlement Administration Board, (M.A.S.), Maxis Communications Berhad, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) and Zikay Group of Companies

Ramadan is a month of fasting observed by Muslims all over the world. During this month, Muslims perform their obligatory abstinence from food and drink from dawn to dusk.
