REPORT AND SUBSTANTIATE CLAIMS OF INTIMIDATION
KUALA LUMPUR, APRIL 25: The Ministry of Tourism regrets the claim by Himpunan
Hijau 3.0 Steering Committee that ministry officials had intimidated bus drivers from
ferrying passengers to the Himpunan Hijau 3.0 and Bersih 3.0 rallies scheduled on
Saturday, April 28 in the city.
Its Secretary-General Dato' Dr. Ong Hong Peng reiterated an earlier clarification by
Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Junaida Lee Abdullah on 22 April that the Ministry
officials did not carry out such actions. The Tourism Ministry has no jurisdiction in the
matter and did not give any instruction to prevent bus drivers from ferrying passengers
to Himpunan Hijau 3.0 and Bersih 3.0 rallies. The Ministry also did not receive any
official complaint from the Himpunan Hijau group.
Dr Ong called upon Himpunan Hijau to provide information on the bus operators who
were intimidated and also on person(s) who allegedly called them on the matter. He
seeks their cooperation to specify the names involved so that investigations can be
carried out immediately.
He was responding to a press statement by the Himpunan Hijau group last Saturday
condemning alleged intimidation by individuals claiming to be Tourism Ministry officers
towards bus operators in Kuantan.
