KUALA LUMPUR, 28 February 2019 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia, has renewed the appointment of Datuk Lee Jin Bok, 81, a prominent South Korean businessman and public figure, as one of the Tourism & Culture Ambassadors, at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, today.

YB Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, Minister of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, made the announcement during a ceremony held in conjunction with Chinese / Korean New Year.

Datuk Lee Jin Bok - born in Incheon, Korea - was appointed as Tourism Ambassador since 2009, and has contributed a lot to both countries in many aspects. He is the Honorary Ambassador for the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and Advisor for Malaysia Tourism Advisory Council in South Korea. He holds many high positions in the Korean-Malaysian companies and community-based organisations, including the Chairman for InfoTech Lee Sdn. Bhd, and Deputy Chairman of the World Federation of Korean Chamber of Commerce, in addition to other roles and positions.

For the record, Malaysia received a total of 616,783 South Korean tourists in 2018, an increase of 27.3% compared to 2017. Currently, Malaysia is directly connected with four major cities in South Korea – Incheon, Busan, Jeju and Mu’an. There are also four Korean low cost carriers flying in to Malaysia, namely Jin Air, Eastar, Air Seoul and Jeju Air.
