IFTAR@KUALA LUMPUR WELCOMES RAMADAN IN 2018


KUALA LUMPUR, 22 MAY 2018: Once again, we welcome the month of fasting in Ramadan and once again it is time for Iftar@Kuala Lumpur.

Iftar@Kuala Lumpur is a programme that enables the mass to gather and break their fast amidst the beautiful dusk scenery of the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), it is an effort to create spiritual awareness in the month of Ramadan through a series of activities for the public.

It also aims to enliven Ramadan as a month of charity and good deeds, improving the Silaturrahim between communities of different religions and races, and simply make Ramadan a more meaningful celebration for everyone.

2018 marks the seventh edition of this event. Iftar@Kuala Lumpur will be held at Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur (in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building) for a total of six (6) times on the following weekends: May 26 & 27, June 2 & 3, June 9 (’7 Likur Night’ organised by DBKL) & June 10.

Among the highlights of this year’s event are: the preparation, exhibition and distribution of the Bubur Lambuk (special congee), Umrah package products, Tadarus Al-Quran, Tazkirah Ramadan, volunteerism, Al-Quran Tahsin Clinic (Tajweed classes), civil service counters, food sale by food trucks, Zakat payment counter, breaking fast or Iftar, congregational prayers (Maghrib, Isya’ and Tarawih), Ramadan Talk, Ramadan Concert and Moreh (night feast).

Various well-known artistes and Nasyeed groups, among them Sharifah Khasif Fadzillah Badiuzzaman, Hijjaz, UNIC, Raihan and many others will perform for Iftar@Kuala Lumpur. Ramadan talks will be given by Sahibul SamahahYBhg. Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri (Federal Territory Mufti), YBhg. Dato’ Ustazah Siti Nor Bahyah Mahamood, YBhg. Datuk Ustaz Kazim Elias, YBhg. Dato’ Ustaz Badlishah Bin Alauddin, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohd Fadzillah Kamsah and PU Azman.

This year, JAKIM will provide a portable Musolla for visitors’ convenience to perform their prayers. Also on the ‘7 Likur Night’, DBKL will put up a display of oil lamps to light up Jalan Raja.

Other agencies involved in the success of Iftar@Kuala Lumpur this year are Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), Tourism Malaysia, Islamic Tourism Centre, Department of National Heritage, Department of Information, Federal Territories Islamic Council (MAIWP), Jamek Mosque of Kampong Bharu, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, Yayasan Ihtimam, Alam Flora, F&N, Julies, Yakult and Food Truck Entrepreneurs.

It also involves the JKKN Culture Volunteers and the Voluntourism under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Background:

The Ramadan celebrations organised by JKKN was first held circa 2012-2014, attracting 65,380 visitors. In 2015, it was rebranded and renamed as Iftar@Kuala Lumpur.

In 2016, it had garnered a total of 17,250,600 audiences, which consisted of on-location visitors and readership / viewership audience from newspapers and social media.The number of local tourists had also increased to 66,080 with 16,520 alone were international tourists from the middle-east, ASEAN, South Korea, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, United States of America and France.

Iftar@KL 2017 attracted 93,588 visitors including those from Brunei, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, UAE, and Canada.
