GALERIA SRI PERDANA OPENS FOR PUBLIC VISIT
Prime Minister the Hon. Dato' Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi will officiate the opening of the Galeria on 20 December 2003.
The move follows the government's decision to preserve Sri Perdana's uniqueness as the home of the nation's longestserving Prime Minister from 23 August 1983 to 18 October 1999.Under the care and supervision of the National Archives, the conservation of Galeria Sri Perdana also reflects the nation's gratitude towards Tun Mahathir's dedicated service to the nation.
Located at Jalan Damansara, the Galeria is divided into two levels and the lower ground section. Level 1 consists of a main lounge for official visits and family gatherings. Its walls boast fine decorative Malay woodcarvings. There is also a meeting room, a banquet kitchen, a theatre and an exhibition hall.
Level 2 has a collection of Tun Mahathir's hats, shoes andwalking sticks, the main bedroom, a dressing room, a reading room, a family dining area, balcony, bedrooms of the Tun's children, a guest bedroom and an exhibition hall.
A visit to the lower ground section will take you to the main kitchen and laundry room. The Galeria also has a motor vehicle display corner where a variety of cars and motorcycles given to the Tun as gifts are kept. Visitors will also find a greenhouse and an aviary where a variety of birds and pets are reared.
