1MCAT EXHIBITION SABAH

Kota Kinabalu, 23 September 2012 – The 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism (1MCAT) exhibition opens today in Sabah until 30 September 2012 at the Jesselton Point Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu.

Held for the second consecutive year, 1MCAT Sabah is an event to showcase Sabah’s very own artists’ works of art. It acts as a platform for art enthusiasts, gallery owners, artists as well as the new generation of collectors to forge business alliances, acquire new contemporary art works, share ideas and exchange information about the new contemporary art of Sabah.

The one-week exhibition is open not only for art enthusiasts seeking Sabah artwork treasures, but also all those who are interested to ‘see’ how life is here in Sabah from the perspective of the local artists with their respective creative expressions.

Jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Suria Bumiria Sdn. Bhd – management of Jesselton Point, Sri Pelancongan Sdn Bhd, Sabah Parks, Sabah Art Gallery, Persatuan Pelukis Seni Visual Kota Kinabalu, and Generator Creative Studio, this exhibition is supported by local private art entities.

The press meet will be followed by a visit to the exhibition booths led by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin, Tourism Malaysia Board of Director and Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board. The exhibition booths, each with a treasure chest of art works, can be viewed at the Jesselton Point Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu from 23 – 30 September 2012.

At the same time, two other art corners will be open at Pulau Manukan from 29 – 30 September 2012, and Kinabalu Park, Kundasang from 6 until 7 October 2012.

Throughout the entire months of September to December, local artists will be showcasing their artworks in a number of galleries, each with their own themes such as Kasihnya Ibu (September – December, Sabah Art Gallery), Colour Magic (1 – 30 September, LAVINIA Private Art Gallery), Images of Light 2 (1 September – 30 November, Borneo Sunrise Home Gallery & Artist Studio), and Street Photography Sabah By Jebat.Net Photography Community (29 September –    29 October, ProArt Gallery, 1Borneo Hypermall).
