19.99 MILLION TOURISTS TO MALAYSIA IN NOVEMBER 2008

Malaysia has recorded a total of 19,993,804 tourist arrivals from January to November 2008 compared to 19,086,800 tourist arrivals for the same period in 2007, representing an increase of 4.8%.

For the month of November 2008, tourist arrivals showed an increase of 4.6% with 1,845,645 tourists compared to 1,764,586 for the same period last year.

For November 2008, Singapore maintained its position as the largest tourist generating market for Malaysia with 963,261 Singaporeans visiting the country. Others in the top ten list were: Indonesia (218,105), Thailand (127,658), Brunei (95,112), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (75,342), India (42,484), Japan (35,815), Australia (34,929), the Philippines (34,226) and United Kingdom (30,891).

The Canadian market registered the highest growth of 70%. Significant growth was also recorded for arrivals from Vietnam (59.5%), West Asia (51.6%), Indonesia (43.0%), Cambodia (37.0%), the Netherlands (24.9%), France (24.9%), Poland (23.9%), Russia (22.2%), United Kingdom (22.0%), Germany (19.0%), Italy (13.0%) and India (11.5%).  

The top ten tourist generating markets from January to November 2008 were: Singapore (9,973,479), Indonesia (2,177,487), Thailand (1,371,013), Brunei (919,072), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (878,298), India (501,563), Japan (395,686), Australia (381,352), the Philippines (358,200) and the United Kingdom (334,460).
