Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix City Festival 2009

The Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix City Festival 2009 was launched today by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, YB Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib with the presence of the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Dato' Ahmad Fuad Ismail at Pavilion KL.

Currently in its sixth year, the KLGP City Festival is an annual hallmark festival for the city, showcasing KL life style and held in conjunction with the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix. KLGP City Festival 2009 promises more spectacular events than ever before that will be held at various locations around KL for a period of six weeks from the 28th of February till the 5th of April 2009.

The 2009 theme for this annual festival is "FULLY SEASONED - Attracting the World's Best to KL!" The phrase "Fully Seasoned" is coined to reflect Malaysia's vast experience in hosting the hottest race on earth, the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix for over a decade (since 1999) and KLGP City Festival for over 5 years. Being seasoned, the KLGP City Festival is now set to spice up the excitements by staging 12 spectacular events, welcoming a wide range of visitors to fully enjoy their KL experience as the Festival soars to a greater height than ever before. KL's enticing calendar of events is indeed FULL!

The 12 spectacular events are also attracting the world's best to KL. Besides the world's greatest, current F1 Drivers there will be top internationally renowned performers and DJs, famous designers, well known fashion labels, tantalizing tastes from world class chefs, Remote Control (RC) Racers, GREAT F1 Concerts, international exhibitions, fabulous displays of vintage and classic cars and motorbikes and a stunning display of the nation's rich, cultural heritage extravaganza.

The Malaysia GP Sale will kick off the KLGP City Festival, and will run throughout from the 28th of February till the 5th of April. During the sale, participating stores in KL will be offering price reductions that will serve to attract a large number of tourists and shopaholics seeking bargains.

For car enthusiasts there will be two special, full day events at Lake Titiwangsa; the MBB (Minis, Beetles & Bikes) Big Day Out on Saturday 21st March followed by the KL Vintage & Classic Car Concours on Sunday 22nd March. The MBB promises to be a special treat for Mini and Volkswagen Beetle enthusiasts besides lovers of classic motor cycles. To ensure that the best of the best vehicles will be on display for the public to view, models are being pre-selected from applicants nationwide. Undoubtedly this will be one of the largest gatherings of vehicles this year with 50 Classic Minis, 50 Beetles, 100 Classic Motorbikes and 100 Scooters on display. The following day will see a spectacular variety of exceptional Vintage and Classic cars from Singapore and all over Malaysia on display at Lake Titiwangsa with pristine models manufactured from the 1920s up to 1983.

For music lovers, the Sunburst KL International Music Festival on 21st of March at Mont Kiara promises big local and international names such as N.E.R.D, Erykah Badu, Korn, Naturally 7, SKYE, Russian Winters, Nidji, Malique and more. The Speedzone Tour on the 4th of April at KL Tower will keep the crowd entertained by international DJs, namely Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Nic Fanciulli, Tall Paul, Ricky Stone, Daniele Davoli, Alexander Technique and Joey G. On the same night, the Festival will take to the streets when Bintang Walk will be rocked by 50 musicians as "Rockestra", the first time ever to be staged at Bintang Walk.

Food and fashion will take centre stage during the KLGP City Festival. Taking the lead is the STYLO Fashion Grand Prix scheduled from 28th March to 5th April at the Lake Garden. The Designers list includes Tom Abang Saufi, Bill Keith,Michael Ong, Jendela KL, Khoon Hooi, Melinda Looi, Albert King and designers flown in from Madrid are Armaya Arzuaga, Agatha Ruiz, Angel Schlesser and Maria Lafuente. The KLGP Couture and Cuisine Festival on 28th and 29th March at the same location is expected to sweeten the STYLO Fashion Week. Back in the City, catch the latest fashion and F1 fever at Pavilion KL Pitstop Festival between 1st and 5th of April.

Colours of Malaysia, the nation's premier cultural extravaganza, will be held on the 21st of March at the Dataran Merdeka, adding colour and culture to the festival. At selected hotels, the Malaysian food and cultural performances will continue throughout the week. A new event in the KLGP City line-up is the KL Design Week which will run from the 27th of March to the 4th of April, showcasing cutting edge creativity and innovation in all creative disciplines at 7 different locations in the city.

For the first time in Malaysia, the KLGP City 2009 will present the Kuala Lumpur Remote Control Grand Prix at the Titiwangsa RC Circuit from 26th to 28th March. In action are some of the world's best RC drivers namely David Jun from Tamiya, America, Atsushi Hara from Japan (the reigning 1/8 Off Road Champion, multiple champion), Hideo Kitazawa (Factory Driver from Futaba), Tamiya TFR Team drivers and Derek Hung - Multiple National Champion from HK. The three-day event will definitely be a treat to attract all RC enthusiasts in the country.

"In spite of the global economic downturn, visiting KL is very affordable. We have very reasonable hotel rates and getting around will not cost much either. What's more, we have planned many events for the F1 season, the tourists will have many interesting shows to see and experience. The KLGP City Festival will make KL a very attractive destination not just for Formula One spectators, but also for tourists in general", said Dato' Ahmad Fuad, the Mayor of KL.

"The KLGP City 2009 Fully Seasoned Festival will bring in many international acts to entice more visitors besides giving the city a world class feel. Events were created with a sense of variety in mind to cater to different markets and interests. With so many events going on, there will be much excitement and the visitors will have to stay longer as they will want to experience more", added Dato' Ahmad Fuad.

With 12 events and promotions over a six-week period, the KLGPC 2009 will be the largest festival held in conjunction with the Formula One Grand Prix to date.
