WORLD DRUMS FESTIVAL 2008: GRAND SHOW AT DATARAN MERDEKA

The Deputy Secretary-General, YBhg. Datuk Haji Abdul Ghaffar A. Thambi will launch the grand show of the World Drums Festival 2008 on 2 August 2008 Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) Kuala Lumpur, at 8.00pm. 

The World Drums Festival 2008, a colossal cultural show with a variety of percussion and drum music from all over the world, began on 26 July and will end on 2 August 2008. This year's event attracts a total of 13 participating performer groups who from nine countries, namely Indonesia, Ghana, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Thailand, Singapore, Venezuela and Malaysia.

Themed ‘Beat The World', the festival gathers the best percussionists and dancers to play the world's most basic instrument against a backdrop of the historic Independence Square of Malaysia. A wide range of artists brandishing traditional instruments from their homelands and contemporary drum music performers will participate in the grand show. Admission is free.  

The festival was kicked-off with pocket shows which started on 26 July until 1 August at major shopping complexes and tourist hot spots. The public can still catch these exciting drums pocket shows at Sunway Pyramid (29 July, 8.30pm), Berjaya Times Square (30 July, 4pm), Sungei Wang Plaza (31 July, 4pm), and the Bintang Walk near Yayasan Selangor Building (1 August, 8.30pm).

  • k) Patravadi Theathre - Thailand
  • l) Rhythm Masala - Singapore
  • m) Fundacion Aje - Venezuela
