TWO NEW MEMBERS FOR TOURISM MALAYSIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Tourism Malaysia has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors in June 2009. They are YM Dato’ Seri Tengku Dr. Zainal Adlin bin Tengku Mahmod, the Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board, and Y. Bhg. Dato’ Robert Geneid, the Managing Director of Borsamulu Resort in Sarawak. The appointments are for a period of two years.

YM Dato’ Seri Tengku Dr. Zainal Adlin has served the government for 40 years in various capacities. In year 2000, he was appointed as the Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board by the Sabah State Government. He is also the Vice President, Emeritus WWF-Malaysia.

Tengku Adlin is active in sports and voluntary organisations. He is also the author of numerous books and publications on nature and adventure as he has led and participated in many expeditions since 1996 to unexplored or lesser known interiors of Sabah.

He was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1985; the Langkawi Award by the King of Malaysia in 1999; and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Duke of Edinburgh Conservation Medal at Buckingham Palace in 1999.

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Robert Geneid was born in Sydney, Australia, and he is a permanent resident of Malaysia.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of New South Wales in 1976 and also graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the same university in 1985. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia and is also a qualified legal practitioner and arbitrator.

He is the managing director of a group of private companies involved in tourism, property development and construction. For tourism, the group is a major shareholder in 2 international hotels in Sarawak, namely the Miri Marriott Resort and Spa and the Royal Mulu Resort.

The group also prepared the management plan for Gunung Mulu National Park which resulted in the listing of the Park on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The group now manages the tourism aspects of the Park and is implementing the management plan on behalf of the State.

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Robert has also acted as advisor to several multinational corporations seeking investment opportunities in Sarawak.
