TOURIST ARRIVALS JANUARY-JULY 2009 REACHED 13.35 MILLION

Malaysia recorded a total of 2,003,724 tourist arrivals for the month of July 2009. It represented an increase of 3.9% from 1,928,082 tourist arrivals for the same month in 2008. 

Cumulatively, tourist arrivals recorded from January to July 2009 were 13,350,168, representing an increase of 3.6% compared to 12,891,202 for the same period in 2008.

The top ten tourist generating markets for July 2009 were Singapore (1,029,421), Indonesia (214,073), Thailand (120,940), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (89,782), Brunei (51,055), Australia (50,132), India (44,797), the United Kingdom (42,821), the Philippines (33,717), and Japan (33,458).

For the same month, double-digit growth was recorded for tourist arrivals from the Netherlands (93.7%), Iran (88.8%), Myanmar (84.4%), France (55.3%), Turkey (52.8%), Denmark (46.8%), Canada (40.5%), Cambodia (39.4%), Italy (38.9%), the United Kingdom (36.4%), Norway (27.2%), Vietnam (26.2%), Germany (25.3%), Australia (21.0%), New Zealand (18.9%), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (16.6%), Saudi Arabia (15.7%), Switzerland (15.4%), Taiwan (14.0%), Laos (13.7%), Russia (13.0%), Singapore (12.8%) and Sweden (12.4%).

The top ten tourist generating markets from January to July 2009 were: Singapore (7,169,386), Indonesia (1,340,754), Thailand (855,055), Brunei (618,227), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (556,467), India (333,981), Australia (280,249), the Philippines (258,215), the United Kingdom (245,541) and Japan (216,680).
