TOURISM MALAYSIA PROMOTES FOOD & CULTURE IN YANGON
YANGON, 11 Sept 2013: Guests at Traders Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar, had a taste of Malaysian cuisine and culture at the recent Food & Cultural Promotion organised by Tourism Malaysia.
The five-day event, beginning 1 September, offered diners at Trader’s Café a special menu prepared by Malaysian chef Mr Ting Thai Yii, featuring some of the country’s famous food such as
nasi lemak, satay, curry laksa, prawn noodle, roti canai, and teh tarik. The appetisers, main dishes and desserts were served daily at the lunch and dinner buffet.
In the evening, diners were also entertained by Malaysian dance troupe with a 20-minute multi-cultural dance performance, besides the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and the Malaysia Truly Asia dances. A mock Malay wedding dais was also displayed at the hotel during the five-day promotion.
Through this collaboration with Traders Hotel and Malaysia Airlines, Tourism Malaysia aims to raise awareness among the local community and expatriates in Yangon about Malaysia through food and culture.
It is also an effort to promote the celebration of Visit Malaysia Year 2014 and to disseminate information on the country’s latest tourist attractions and events.
The Food and Cultural Promotion was launched by the Malaysian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Dr Ahmad Faisal Muhamad on 1 September at the Trader’s Café, accompanied by the General Manager of Traders Hotel Mr Phillip Couvaras.
The launching was also attended by more than 70 guests comprising tourism industry players and members of the media in Yangon.
Last year, a total of 83,473 Myanmar tourists visited Malaysia, an increase of 1.9% compared to 81,946 tourists in 2011. The first half of 2013 recorded a 19.9% increase in arrivals from Myanmar with 50,252 tourists compared to 41,926 tourists for the same period in 2012.
