TOURISM MALAYSIA INITIATES SALES MISSION IN BANGLADESH TO BOOST TOURIST ARRIVALS

DHAKA, 5 August 2024 – Tourism Malaysia is organising its first sales mission to Bangladesh this year, kicking off on 5th August in Dhaka and will conclude on 7th August 2024 in Sylhet.

The Malaysian delegation led by Mr. Solehuddin Ahmad, Tourism Malaysia’s Deputy Director of the International Promotions Division (Asia & Africa), comprises local tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers, Malaysia-based airlines, and representatives from state tourism boards.

The sales mission aims to raise Malaysia’s profile and showcase its unique tourism product offerings while building closer relationships with its Bangladeshi counterparts through its pre-arranged business-to-business (B2B) sessions. In addition to opening doors to potential collaborations and further engagements, the programme also provides a platform for Tourism Malaysia to promote the Visit Malaysia Year, scheduled for 2026.

Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, said: “We believe Bangladesh is one of the important markets for us, and therefore we are committed to strengthening our presence and working alongside tourism fraternities in this region.”

In 2023, Malaysia recorded 20.1 million international tourist arrivals and welcomed a total of 142,748 Bangladeshi tourists. The number of arrivals is projected to grow to 27.3 million this year, with RM102.7 billion in tourism receipts.

Currently, visa applications to Malaysia can be made online through https://malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my/. In terms of connectivity, there are 60 direct flights with 13,045 seats offered weekly between Dhaka and Malaysia via Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, AirAsia, Biman Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines.
