THE KEDAH INTERNATIONAL RED TEE GOLF INVITATION ATTRACTS OVER 60 AMATEUR LADY GOLFERS
SERI KEMBANGAN, DEC. 15: Over 60 amateur lady golfers from Malaysia and overseas are participating in the Kedah International Red Tee Golf Invitation beginning today at The Mines Resort and Golf Club.
Her Majesty, Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah is the patron of the tournament .
Organised by the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (MALGA) and supported by Tourism Malaysia, this is the third year of the tournament. Since 2009, the tournament has been held in Langkawi attracting amateur lady golfers from several countries. This is the first time, the two day Red Tee Golf Invitation is being held outside Kedah.
“We are happy to support this event as it is in line with our aim of promoting Malaysia’s profile as a golf and luxury destination to the global community. Golf tourism has been identified as one the 12 Entry Point Projects (EPP) under the Tourism National Key Economic Areas (NKEA),” said the Minister of Tourism Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen.
“We recognise the tremendous potential Malaysia has as a golfing destination for lady golfers since we have a myriad of other attractions that complement golf and also cater to their needs especially duty-free shopping for luxury items,” she added.
Malaysia boasts over 200 golf courses involving a RM20 billion investment located in a multitude of interesting terrains including exotic islands, lush rainforests and scenic mountains.
Last year, Malaysia was named Asia’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination by the World Travel Awards, an organization that recognizes excellence in all sectors of the travel and tourism industry.
Every year, Malaysia plays hosts to an array of prestigious world-class golf tournaments including the Malaysia Maybank Open, the Sime Darby LGPA Malaysia and the CIMB Classic attracting professional golfers like Tiger Woods, Robert Garrigus and Greg Chalmers.
Malaysia’s homegrown World Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship (WAITGC) has also successfully elevated the country’s image as a world-class golfing destination since 1994.
A Gala Dinner and Prize-Giving Ceremony hosted by Tourism Malaysia in conjunction with the Red Tee Golf Invitation will take place on Sunday, December 16. Her Majesty, the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah will give away prizes to the winners.
