PULAU PERHENTIAN - TOP 10 BEACH TO SWING A HAMMOCK
Pulau Perhentian is one of the world’s most “idyllic, sun-kissed refuges,”
according to Lonely Planet, the world’s largest travel guide firm.
Sapphire blue waters, white sandy beaches, jungle trekking, diving, and an all time favourite—sun bathing—these are just a few things to be found and experienced at Pulau Perhentian in Malaysia. Lonely Planet ranked this beautiful beach as the fifth “Best Beach to Swing a Hammock” in its 1000 Ultimate Experiences for 2010.
Pulau Perhentian, meaning 'stopover island,' consists of two islands: Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil. “The palm-fringed beaches of the Perhentian Islands, covered in tropical rainforest, are about as natural as they come: calm, hassle-free and with virtually no signs of commercialisation,” says Lonely Planet.
Of the two islands, Pulau Perhentian Kecil is geared towards backpackers where one will find a wide range of budget options for both food and accommodation. Pulau Perhentian Besar, on the other hand, is more developed and offers luxurious facilities.
Located just off the edge of the Pulau Redang Marine Park, Perhentian's coral-fringed waters have excellent underwater seascapes for snorkeling and scuba diving. Arrangements can also be made for island cruises, and boats can be hired to explore private bays and secluded coves.
