KAPAS-MARANG INTERNATIONAL SWIMATHON 2006, TERENGGANU
The fourth KapasMarang International Swimathon 2006 from 22 until 23
April 2006 is held in conjunction with the Water Festival Month celebrations.
Some 160 participants from nine countries - Japan, United Kingdom, Thailand,
Denmark, Hong Kong, Ukraine, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia - are taking
part in the event, organised by the Terengganu State Government and the
Terengganu State Tourism Action Council, with the cooperation of Trisportz
Event Management Sdn Bhd.
The race covers 6.5km of open sea swimming from Pulau Kapas to
Kelulut beach in Marang, Terengganu. The event will be flagged off by YB Dato'
Mohamed bin Awang Tera, State Industrial Development and Tourism committee
chairman, on 23 April at 7:30 am in Pulau Kapas.
Among the celebrated participants in this year's race is Kimberly Yap Fui
Li from Sarawak, overall winner in the KapasMarang
International Swimathon 2005, who holds the current record of 1:26:16. Brian Then Yee Chiat of Penang and Eugene Chan Wai Yong of Kuala Lumpur are also returning to defend their
titles in the Men's (1219 years) and Men's (2039 years) categories respectively.

To liven things up, a Marang Cultural Carnival featuring traditional martial
arts, musical performances, and sales and demonstrations of local cuisine is
planned from 21 until 27 April at Kelulut beach.
The event is sponsored by Tourism Malaysia, MILO, 100 Plus Power,
Power Bar, Spritzer and Celcom. Race wionners will collect a total of RM38,900
in prize money.
