JULY ARRIVALS REACHED 12 MILLION MARK

Malaysia has recorded a total of 12,891,202 tourist arrivals from January to July 2008 compared to 12,404,377 tourist arrivals for the same period in 2007, representing an increase of 3.9%.

For the month of July 2008, tourist arrivals showed an increase of 12.5% with 1,928,082 tourists compared to 1,713,951 for the same month last year.

For July 2008, Singapore maintained its position as the biggest tourist generating market for Malaysia with 912,394 Singaporeans visiting the country. Others in the top ten list are Indonesia (236,936), Thailand (128,317), Brunei (96,493), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (76,978), West Asia (56,640), India (42,391), Australia (41,432), Japan (36,305) and the Philippines (33,867).

Most major markets also recorded double digit growth in the month of July 2008 compared to the same month in 2007. They are Russia (118.7%), Cambodia (66.3%), West Asia (64.1%), Switzerland (62.4%), France (60.7%), India (46.2%), the Netherlands (45.0%), Italy (44.8%), Australia (44.3%), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (41.8%), United Kingdom (40.3%), Indonesia (38.1%), Germany (38.1%), the Philippines (37.4%), New Zealand (36.9%), Canada (31.7%), South Korea (28.7%), Vietnam (24.9%), the United States of America (24.4%), Japan (23.1%) and Thailand (18.4%).

The top ten tourist generating markets from January to July 2008 were Singapore (6,388,324), Indonesia (1,332,447), Thailand (886,431), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (568,660), Brunei (548,134), India (335,241), Japan (243,062), Australia (236,293), the Philippines (220,623) and the United Kingdom (204,717).
