FOCUS ON INDIAN TOURIST MARKET KICKSTARTS TOURISM MALAYSIA’S 2019 PROMOTIONAL PLAN
MUMBAI, 9 JANUARY 2019: Tourism Malaysia is participating in the India International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (IITT) in Mumbai from 10 to 12 January in efforts to strengthen its presence in India. This is the second time that Tourism Malaysia is participating in this event due to the encouraging response in the previous year.
A total of 30 participants from 22 organisations from Malaysia are taking part this year under the Tourism Malaysia pavilion. They comprise hoteliers, tour operators, airlines and product owners.Award-winning theme parks namely Legoland Malaysia and Sunway Hotels and Theme Parks are taking the opportunity to offer attractive packages to pull in the crowd.
Tourism Malaysia is also organizing its own tourism trade networking session for the Malaysian sellers to meet up with Indian buyers in Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar on 9 and 14 January respectively.
India is the sixth top tourist generating market for Malaysia with a total of 552,739 Indian visitors recorded in 2017. Last year, from January to October 2018, Malaysia received a total of 495,620 Indian tourists, facilitated by the ease of electronic visa services. Consistent promotional efforts in the market and connectivity via 222 weekly flights providing 39,460 seats to Malaysia contributed to this growth.
Malaysia hopes to achieve 646,000 arrivals from the India market in 2020.

IITT 2019 is one of India’s leading travel trade events. This year, it is expected to attract more than 500 exhibitors, 30,000 visitors, 400 hosted buyers, 50 national & International speakers, 300 corporates and 150 wedding planners. The event comprises workshops, conferences and speed networking sessions, among others.
