EXCLUSIVE RESORT, THE KUDAT RIVIERA, OPENS IN SABAH, MALAYSIA

Sabah is well-known as a destination where people can rough it out. A gruelling climb to the peak of Mount Kinabalu. A wild white water rafting adventure down Padas River. A trek into the wild unknown of the Lost World of Sabah, the Danum Valley.

But then, there is a softer side of Sabah, too. Where one can laze around forever on a private cove, with a personal butler ever-happy to serve. Where exquisite villas are built as private nests, tucked away from public eye. Where one can retreat into utter seclusion and commune with nature.

With the launch of Phase One in July 2009, The Kudat Riviera, in the beautiful northern region of Sabah, is being introduced as an eco-luxury resort that offers such privacy and exclusivity for those who want to live it up in absolute comfort and style, with equal consideration for the conservation of nature.

A retreat here promises luxurious accommodations in villa estates, each occupying between 1 and 8 acres of private grounds, spread over 70 acres of stunning coastline. Each individual property is built upon expansive, manicured private gardens, with a private infinity swimming pool offering a level of space, privacy and seclusion.

All villas at The Kudat Riviera are provided with their own dedicated private butler to offer impeccable and personalised service. Guests may also call upon a private chef to provide truly unique dining in the privacy of their residence, or to create culinary experiences in extraordinary settings aroundThe Kudat Riviera

The surroundings here are picture perfect - a diverse natural environment of pristine, private, coral-fringed coastline and verdant forests. The landscape is one of white sandy beaches, clear azure waters, secluded coves and miles of undulating hills and valleys.

Other facilities here include Rustique, an informal yet chic beach club restaurant; and the Caviar Sky Lounge, some 900 feet above sea level, overlooking the ocean and providing spectacular 360-degree views out to the peak of Mount Kinabalu, the northern-most tip of Borneo known as Simpang Mengayau, and the glittering night sky above.

In addition, a wide range of facilities and services are made available to guests including watersports, in-villa spa treatments, a kids' club, luxury yacht charter, scuba diving, helicopter tours, nearby 18-hole golf course, and excursions to explore the diversity of Borneo.

In keeping with efforts to conserve the environment, The Kudat Riviera harnesses renewable energy sources with solar panels and wind turbines wherever possible, and practises responsible waste management, recycling and the use of bio-degradable materials.

Each villa is constructed of natural materials throughout, including forest managed timbers, rich coconut tree columns, natural stones, Alang Alang grass thatch roofing, and water hyacinth river-grass woven furniture. The Kudat Riviera is also committed to preserving the cultural heritage of the local Rungus community, and actively engages in a host of local employment and betterment programmes which aims to have a positive impact on local community welfare.

Already, it is being heralded as the "best luxury villa development in the Asia Pacific Region" and has won awards, including "Best Architecture - Malaysia" and "Best Development - Malaysia" at the CNBC/Daily Mail International Property Awards.

Onward transfers from Kota Kinabalu to The Kudat Riviera take just 40 minutes by private helicopter, or a pleasant 2.5 hour drive through rice paddy fields and quaint villages. Guests can also arrive aboard a luxury yacht.
