Tourism Malaysia has teamed up with leading Hong Kong travel agency EGL to offer charter flights direct from Hong Kong to Langkawi, Malaysia, for the popular summer season.  The direct flights, bypassing the usual stop in Kuala Lumpur, mean tourists will fly a mere 3.40 hours to this favourite destination.

For sale only through EGL offices, the 18 charter flights will be operated by Hong Kong Airlines, with eight flights scheduled in July (July 14, 18, 22, 23, 26, 27, 30 and 31);and another ten in August (August 3, 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 19, 23 and 27).

Group tours will be on sale from today for HK$3,988. EGL is also offering special 5-day, 4-night return flight and accommodation packages for as little as HK$3,799. Accommodation choices are at Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort, Meritus Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort, Langkawi Lagoon Resort, Awana Porto Malai Resort, Holiday Villa Beach & Spa and Bayview Hotel.

"These charter flights are fantastic, as they mean Hong Kong travellers to Langkawi will be able to start their holiday even sooner," said Zaliha Zainuddin, Director, Tourism Malaysia, Hong Kong.

Almost 14,000 Hong Kong residents took advantage of the summer charter flights last year and it is expected even more travelers will take-up the special flights and travel packages this year.

CX Holidays is also offering two Cathay Pacific charter flights to Langkawi in the summer, on July 30 and August 3, bringing the total Hong Kong-Langkawi charter flight service to 20.

Malaysia Airlines will re-direct seven of its Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur flights to fly straight from Hong Kong to Langkawi, and then on to Kuala Lumpur. Those flights will operate every Friday from July 11 to August 22, departing Hong Kong at 9:15am and arriving in Langkawi at 12:55pm.
