A GREAT START FOR 2009
The year 2009 has begun on a positive note for Malaysia’s tourism industry. In January 2009, Malaysia received 1,871,099 tourists, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in the previous year.

The top ten tourist generating markets for January 2009 were Singapore (964,475), Indonesia (186,023), Thailand (116,372), Brunei (102,054), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (100,563), Australia (47,228), India (41,859), the Philippines (35,955), Japan (32,317) and United Kingdom (31,836).
For the month of January 2009, double digit growth was recorded for tourist arrivals from the Philippines (43.8%), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (37.3), West Asia (35.3%), Brunei (31.6%), Taiwan (26.7%), Vietnam (25.3%), Canada (25.5%), France (23.9%), Cambodia (21.7%), Australia (21.5%), New Zealand (18.0%), Germany (15.8%), Singapore (12.0%), United Kingdom (10.8%), USA (10.7%) and Russia (10.1%).
