23RD SABAH DRAGON BOAT RACE 2008
One of the world's most popular water sports comes to life on 15 June 2008, at Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu in the ‘land below the wind'; Sabah. The 23rd Sabah Dragon Boat Race running for the 23rd time is organized by the Sabah Tourism Board.
Taking in teams of 24 people, consisting of a coach, a drummer, a coxswain, 18 rowers and three reserves, the registration fee for this race is set at RM100, with prize money totaling over RM30,000 in 6 different categories.
Teams from Japan, Brunei, China, Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia and many other countries have participated previously, with 49 teams participating in the 22nd Sabah Dragon Boat Race.
The dragon boats which are of international standards, race along an 800 meter racing lane, which takes approximately 4 minutes to complete. One of the most interesting aspects of the dragon boat race is the undying team spirit shown by all the teams, in this real test of speed, coordination and teamwork.
