1,961,355 TOURISTS IN JUNE 2008

A total of 1,961,355 tourists visited Malaysia in June 2008, representing an increase of 8.7% compared to the same month in 2007.

Cumulatively, tourist arrivals recorded from January to June 2008 were 10,963,120 representing an increase of 2.6% compared to 10,690,426 for the same period in 2007.

For June 2008, Singapore maintained its position as the biggest tourist generating market for Malaysia with 976,873 Singaporeans visiting the country. Others in the top ten list are Indonesia (209,015), Thailand (144,121), Brunei (101,255), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (73,355), India (58,605), Japan (33,629), the Philippines (33,230), Australia (31,651) and the United Kingdom (23,436).

Most major markets also recorded double digit growth in the month of June 2008 compared to the same month in 2007. They are Russia (112.7%), Cambodia (76.5%), Switzerland (65.4%), the Netherlands (61.2%), South Korea (58.8%), Germany (56.5%), Canada (50.5%), Australia (50.3%), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (47.1%), France (45.6%), New Zealand (44.5%), Japan (38.3%), Italy (37.6%), the United Kingdom (34.9%), India (30.8%), South Africa (17.9%), Indonesia (14.3%), the Philippines (11.6%), Singapore (11.3%) and the United States of America (10.9%).

 The top ten tourist generating markets from January to June 2008 were Singapore (5,475,930), Indonesia (1,095,511), Thailand (758,114), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (491,682), Brunei (451,641), India (292,850), Japan (206,757), Australia (194,861), the Philippines (186,756) and the United Kingdom (173,326).
