1,760,326 Tourist in April 2008
A total of 1,760,326 tourists visited Malaysia in April 2008, a drop of 0.3% compared to the same month in 2007.
Cumulatively, tourist arrivals recorded from January to April 2008 were 7,102,617, representing an increase of 0.8% compared to 7,044,962 for the same period in 2007.
For April 2008, Singapore maintained its position as the biggest tourist generating market for Malaysia with 867,087 Singaporeans visiting the country. Others in the top ten list are Indonesia (186,492), Thailand (137,229), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (81,415), Brunei (59,583), India (43,144), Australia (33,967), the Philippines (33,521), United Kingdom (31,952) and Japan (30,609).
Most major markets also recorded double digit growth in the month of April 2008 compared to the same month in 2007. They are the Netherlands (60.9%), Cambodia (56.2%), Russia (51.5%), New Zealand (47.8%), France (43.1%), Canada (39.3%), Australia (36.5%), Germany (32.0%), South Korea (30.8%), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (29.7%), the United Kingdom (24.5%), India (18.7%), Indonesia (17.6%), Italy (16.8%), Japan (14.4%) and Taiwan (11.6%).
The top ten tourist generating markets from January to April 2008 were Singapore (3,487,967), Indonesia (697,339), Thailand (488,278), China (including Hong Kong & Macau) (339,789), Brunei (275,141), India (159,823), Japan (142,568), Australia (134,778), the United Kingdom (128,521) and the Philippines (116,797).
