Ladies and gentlemen

To sing: “Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song / And I'll try not to sing out of key” – The Beatles, “With a Little Help from My Friends”

1. Good evening to all and welcome to PATA Malaysia Chapter Fellowship Dinner, themed “Beatle-Mania and Retro.”

2. I wish to extend a special welcome to YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri, Minister of Tourism and Culture, for taking time off from his busy schedule to be with us this evening. Thank you, Dato’ Seri.

3. PATA Malaysia Chapter or PMC is an extension of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, and our role is to translate the global objectives of PATA into local action within Malaysia by organising programmes and activities relevant to local communities. Among the programmes implemented last year were the PMC Career Fair and the PATA Hub City Forum. We also launched our PMC website and put together a PMC profile outlining our vision, mission, strategies and so on.

4. The Malaysian chapter, with a membership of 85, is comprised of government sectors, airlines, academic establishments, hotels, tour & travel agents and other organisations related to the tourism and hospitality industry.

5. We have just concluded our Annual General Meeting which marks the end of a year’s worth of exciting programmes under PATA Malaysia Chapter.

6. There couldn’t have been a sweeter ending than to be awarded recently the PATA Most Innovative Chapter Award at the prestigious trade fair, ITB in Berlin. This recognition can be attributed to the two key and successful events undertaken in 2014, namely the PMC Tourism Career Fair in June and the PATA Hub City Forum: Kuala Lumpur in October, which were targetted at contributing value to the tourism and hospitality industry.

7. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank the PMC Executive Committee, all PMC members and other stakeholders of the tourism and hospitality industry for your support and contribution in one way or another to our success in winning this award.

8. On behalf of PATA Malaysia Chapter, I would like to thank Dato’ Dr. Ong Hong Peng, Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, who have kindly accepted the award at the recent IT Berlin. In fact, this award is not only for PMC, but a recognition to the tourism industry players in Malaysia. Further, I would like to humbly express my sincere thanks to YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri, Minister of Tourism and Culture; Dato’ Dr. Ong; YB Dato’ Seri Maznah Mazlan, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia; Dato’ Mirza and all the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Tourism Malaysia officers, and DBKL for their support to PMC.

Ladies and gentlemen,

9. During the meeting earlier, we reviewed and closed reports and the accounts for the financial year 2014. We also elected the office bearers to the Executive Committee for the next term of office 2015-2017.

10. On this note, I wish to congratulate all those elected to lead PATA Malaysia Chapter in the next few years. Let me welcome the new PMC team. (PMC Chairman may announce key positions).

11. This will be the team to push PATA Malaysia Chapter forward over the next few years and I trust that all members will give their full support when the time comes to implement all the programmes we have identified for the year.

Ladies and gentlemen,

12. As the Beatles once sang, “I get by with a little help from my friends” and so, I must say how grateful I am to have had the support from all PATA Malaysia Chapter members as well as my friends from the tourism industry, specifically the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Tourism Malaysia. Let us all look forward to another great year by PATA Malaysia Chapter!

Thank you.

END
