He was the former Chairman of Southern Bank Berhad and Southern Finance Berhad. Tan Sri Syed is an entrepreneur with more than forty years’ experience in property development, construction, media, entertainment, hotel management, food & beverage, and hospitality business. Currently, the University of Tasmania, Australia graduate, where he obtained his Bachelors of Economics degree, is the Chairman of public listed YLI Holdings Berhad, with directorships at Titjaya Land Berhad amongst other private companies. He is known for his involvement in the Venus Assets Sdn Bhd, the developer of the Four Seasons Place in Kuala Lumpur, the owner of Malaysia’s first Nobu Japanese restaurant, Concorde Hotels & Resorts, as well as the Hard Rock Group.
Professor Datuk (Dr.) Jimmy Choo studied fashion at Cordwainers College, part of the London College of Fashion and one of five colleges that form the University of the Arts. Since establishing his couture label in 1986, Professor Datuk Jimmy's made to order designs have included an extensive range of hand-beaded, hand-stitched footwear, from slippers, sandals, mules, to boots. His creations are worn by celebrities worldwide including the late Princess Diana. Today, Prof Datuk Dr Jimmy is a recognised fashion icon. His accolades include Worlds Most Outstanding Chinese Designer Award from Hong Kong Design Center 2011, You Bring Charm To The World, a global award presented by Phoenix TV in Beijing for his influence.
He is currently the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Basel, Switzerland. He is also a consultant to Swiss and Malaysian business development, lending his expertise to the entry of several luxury watch companies into the market. He owns Jeffery’s Restaurant in Switzerland since 1980 and trades in exotic tea and spices since 1973. He was responsible for the Malaysian Food Fair event in Switzerland which was organised in cooperation with the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board in Frankfurt, Germany. He organized a trip to Malaysia for a Swiss delegation from Safran Guild of Basel to promote our country.
Is best described as a bridge connecting South Korea and Malaysia. He is currently Chairman of Technology Infotech Lee Sdn Bhd, an information and communication technology company, serves as Deputy Chairman of the World Federation of Korean Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Adviser for the Overseas Business Division of the Daemyung Group, a South Korean conglomerate. He also holds key positions within tourism industry being the Honorary Ambassador of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, a UNESCO world heritage site in South Korea and as advisor for the Malaysia Toursim Advisory Council Korea.
He is originally from Negeri Sembilan and learned cooking from his grandmother, a consummate foodie and cook. He discovered his passion for the culinary arts at an early age and eventually specialised in traditional recipes. Chef Ismail joined MATRADE on its tour of the USA, the Middle East and Europe promoting Malaysian food and products. Under Tourism Malaysia, Chef Ismail brought Malaysia cuisine to Japan, South Africa, Cambodia and the UK through cooking demonstrations. Today, he co-owns and runs Restoran Rebung that specializes in authentic Malay cuisine.
A self-made MySpace musician turned international sensation, this charismatic young singer songwriter from Alor Setar, Kedah managed to make her way to the American market when she was signed up by Verve Records, Sarah McLachlan and Diana Krall’s record label. Yuna has won the local Grammies, Anugerah Industry Muzik every year since 2010. In 2008, she clinched the Best Pop Vocalist at the VIMA Music Awards and performed at the closing ceremony of the AFC Asian Cup 2015. She has lent her voice to Tourism Malaysia award winning promotion video “Malaysia, Truly Asia. The Essence of Asia”.
A staunch conservationist with unrelenting views on the importance of protecting and conserving the region’s unique marine attractions, Lee has profoundly influenced the development and growth of dive tourism. After becoming a certified PADI dive instructor in 1983, he pioneered the first dive school in Tanjung Aru, Sabah. The outfit, Borneo Divers went on to build Sipadan Island Dive Lodge on its namesake island. Borneo Divers was the first to bring internation divers to Sipadan Island in 1984 and is instrumental in its development into one of the top dive spots in the world. He is also the founder of the first Child Academy in Sabah which produced our nation’s first female dive instructor and many other innovative projects.
Shantini Theva is an Indian Kollywood film actress and model from Malaysia. With extensive experience and connections in the South Indian film industry, Shantini is recognised as the first Malaysian to have successfully penetrated the Kollywood film industry.
Her career started as a child Barathamnathiyam dancer (Indian classical dance), and she was noticed after winning several awards in Malaysia’s local film industry which marked her entry into filmdom.
After appearing in a supporting role in the famous series Arasi Tamil 2009, she made her first cinematic entrance in the 2009 film Shivagiri IPS.
She was catapulted to fame with her role in Naadodiga, a film which was released in June 2010 and garnered highly positive reviews.Made with a budget of Rupees 7 million, the film grossed more than Rupees 35 million and became one of the huge blockbusters of 2010. It won a Filmfare Award and a Vijay Award for Best Film.
In 2011, Shantini starred in Mathil Mel Poonai, a film interpreted from the Hollywood movie Eden Lake. Later, Vagaisuda Vaa was released on 30 September 2012 to generally positive reviews. Subsequently, the film was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for 2012.
Apart from acting, Shantini is also passionate about humanitarian and social and community work, with particular love for working with abandoned children.
Shantini’s involvement and success in the South Indian film industry make her the perfect Tourism Ambassador to promote Malaysia, especially in the rising India market. Tourism Malaysia looks forward to working with her to leverage on the opportunities to penetrate the South Asia region.
Kabir Khan is a world-renowned Malaysian magician and mentalist. He has performed all over the world including the United States, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Kabir has been involved in some high-profile events that include performing before the United Arab Emirates Royal family in Dubai.
He made his mark in Hollywood, USA, in 2014 when he won 2nd runner-up at an international competition held at The Academy of Magical Arts. Leading Magic and Performing Arts institution, the McBride Magic & Mystery School in Las Vegas, has now recognised Kabir as “one of the new top mentalists in the world”.
In 2015, he received worldwide attention when Jack Canfield, who co-authored the all-time classic, Chicken Soup for the Soul, featured him in his New York Times bestseller, The Success Principles 10th Anniversary Edition (HarperCollins 2015). He was recently featured once again in Jack Canfield’s new book, Living The Success Principles - Inspiring Stories of Real People Achieving Extraordinary Results. This time Jack Canfield decided to start the new book by featuring Kabir’s amazing rise to international stardom.

The appointment of Kabir Khan as Malaysia’s Tourism Ambassador is a step forward towards strengthening Malaysia’s tourism brand and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and the United States and the United Kingdom. Not only will his appointment bring great value and meaning to our tourism promotional efforts, but it will also show up Malaysia as a country with great talent.
